Thy glass will show thee how thy beauties wear,
Thy dial how thy precious minutes waste;
The vacant leaves thy mind’s imprint will bear,
And of this book, this learning mayst thou taste.
The wrinkles which thy glass will truly show
Of mouthed graves will give thee memory;
Thou by thy dial’s shady stealth mayst know
Time’s thievish progress to eternity.
Look what thy memory cannot contain,
Commit to these waste blanks, and thou shalt find
Those children nursed, deliver’d from thy brain,
To take a new acquaintance of thy mind.
These offices, so oft as thou wilt look,
Shall profit thee and much enrich thy book. (Sonnet 77 by WS)
Happy to announce that time’s thievish progress to eternity FILMS is now officially an incorporated company, tax numbers and all.

photo-collage exhibit
An exhibit at the MET displays the first photo-collages. They were not done by Picasso as previously thought, but by aristocratic Victorian women, sitting at home, who sought to recreate, at times with humour, the world that surrounded them. They look like early storyboards, using photographs of the characters, setting and mise-en-scene to create a story.

My present: The Ingmar Bergman Archives.
A massive, beautiful tome. Have begun to read parts here and there.
Bergman, P 75: “At the moment I am in between films; one has just opened at the cinemas and the other will be started on Monday. It is an uncomfortable and enjoyable situation: The weariness and tedium of the old is mixed with fear associated with the new. The wounds and scratches left over from the critics’ scolding may have healed, the joy over the audience success subsided, and I keep repeating to myself that the most important thing of all is to learn, not forget, never trun around, keep moving forward even if the whole of Sodom has exploded behind me. The danger of turning into a pillar of salt is extrememly great in my profession. The corroding acids of bitterness can oxidize even the most resistant person.”

website & snow
The website is now up and running. Amazing work done by designer Jason Kuhrt. Jason and I will be refactoring the site in the spring, adding music and more photographs. For now, we both are under deadlines for other projects. My holiday is comprised of working on a short script with actress Miranda Handford (MS1928 & IMPOSSIBLE), finishing up IMPOSSIBLE with editor Dev Singh based in T.O., and diving into my second draft of the feature AS THE NIGHT THE DAY (graciously funded by SODEC). Two days in the country in the snow is plenty of rest.
